Born in Paris in the late fifties, Hénohut de Zhery has early begun drawing and painting before starting a career in banking where he has had the chance to specialize for a while in shipping.  Hénohut (pronounce N-O-UUH) has lived on the Italian and French Riviera where he settled thirty years ago.
He has a wonderful wife and two children who have already left the family nest. He is a keen yachtsman who has sailed and raced in the Mediterranean and on both sides of the Atlantic.
He has almost read everything available about sea, ships and sailors and has a real respect for sea people, their wisdom and humility. He likes any kind of boat, from navy ship to old harbour tug but remains fascinated by sail power. Hénohut has also a passion for History despite the fact it was mainly written… onshore! He also likes Nineteenth Century and Belle Epoque architecture, old stones, and warm interiors. The values he appreciates at his contemporaries are ethics, curiosity, originality and humour.

In the early nineties, he resumed drawing and painting using different techniques from pencil and watercolors to a mix of digital works where he likes to “dig” the sea on his own snapshots before adding on some more conventional brush and charcoal works. Beside the Marine themes, he also paints landscapes, interiors and nudes. Asked about his favourite Marine artists he replied they are uncountable although William Turner, Léon Haffner, Marin Marie, Auguste Mayer, Carl Locher and most of the Impressionists would definitely be in his shortlist.

When drawing boats, he tries to respect the "physics" of what he observed while sailing, that is the coherence between the wind, the sea, the light and the sails.

Many of his friends told Hénohut he ought to sell part of his collection which begins to be respectable.

And so it is....!
