Guido Lötscher is a contemporary Swiss painter. He has gone through a variety of processes in his quest to find his unique aesthetic language. The transition from figurative painting to non-objective painting and "metaphysical" color field painting was eventually made possible by influence of the American painter Mark Rothko's overwhelming body of work. The challenge was in fusing spontaneous expressiveness, meditative depth, and color and form harmony. In the end, it comes down to trying to establish a link between the sensual and the metaphysical and developing a silent, contemplative state of consciousness.

His use of the abstract-expressive squeegee technique, which has strong similarities to the "metaphysical" color field painting, has been more prevalent as his creative practice has progressed. The goal remains the same: to produce serene, meditative, and yet forceful, energetic images that inspire reflection and permit inner equilibrium. Paint that has been applied in multiple layers, scrapings and overlays with brushes, palette knives, and squeegees, as well as the inherent effect and randomness of color and form; in the process of creating his abstract works, the spontaneous perception that speaks from the heart and at the same time is highly thoughtful is what gradually breathes life into the painting. Compositions that are frequently reminiscent of spatial or landscape representations, but remain non-objective and accessible to the free interpretation of individual experience, result from the sequence of addition and subtraction using tools and color.
