Briefly on the artistic career of Wolfgang Groß Freytag - he comes from Kempten in the Allgäu and came to the far north in the seventies. In Kiel he studied free art at the Muthesius University and was a master student in Harald Duwe's painting class.
The artist Wolfgang Groß-Freytag
shows his versatility in his works.
critical realism
Wolfgang Groß-Freytag is an artist of contrasts. In his works we find a wide variety of stylistic approaches. But they are always a sensitive expression of the content. Above all, he is a critical artist and this is also due to his personal connection with the spirit of optimism of the 1968 generation. Works such as "Carrying the Cross", "Ohne Ende" and the 5-part work "Fräcking" deserve special mention. "Ohne Ende" shows the drama of the war and the resulting refugee movement worldwide.
architecture
In addition to socially critical motifs and the depiction of the Icelandic horse, his examination of the architecture of the North Sea coast has inspired him to create a whole series. Gross-Freytag paints spontaneously, under the direct impression of what he sees, capturing the dynamic of the moment - with strong, sometimes impasto brushstrokes. Spontaneous is the keyword, because his expressively broken representations of familiar architecture allow the viewer to see the familiar in a new way.
Realism, because traditional values are reinterpreted, alienated and presented according to the artist's emotional state.
portraits
Wolfgang Groß-Freytag paints in his very own style, with a keen, sensitive eye for the personality he is portraying. He tracks down the inner man, makes visible what is invisible to others.
Icelandic horses
Not to be forgotten are the beautiful Icelandic horses that gallop towards us from the outer walls of the studio. Joie de vivre, strength and beauty unite in his pictures. Wolfgang Groß-Freytag portrays horses just as sensitively as he depicts people and is thus part of a long tradition of artists.
