Bracciano è un Comune della Città Metropolitana di Roma Capitale nel Lazio, circa 40 km a nord della Capitale, a circa 50 km da Viterbo, in posizione dominante sull'omonimo Lago detto anche Lago Sabatino.
Grosso Borgo dominato dal Castello, sorge su un dosso presso la riva Sud Ovest del lago omonimo.
Già Rocca dei Prefetti di Vico, nominata per la prima volta nel 1234, passò nel 1419 agli Orsini, a cui si deve il Castello (ora degli Odescalchi) incominciato nel 1470 circa, da Napoleone Orsini, che incorporò la Rocca dei Prefetti, e compiuto dal figlio Gentile Virginio nel 1485 circa
