Gil Lepage refers to his work as “open works of art”. His canvases are signed at four different angles, suggesting that they can be observed from all sides. In this way, the artist plays with direction as well as with us. The meaning behind these paintings and their perception vary depending on the direction in which they are observed. Lepage’s abstract paintings are open to interpretation and do not intend to prove anything in particular. The painter’s work invites his audience to go on an interior journey by demonstrating that everything can seem different depending on the assumed point of view.
My paintings are not attached to anything, they go without heavyness and free the mind of the spectator. The colors are primary and organic, they are like sounds that echo in our emotions.
They are painted on the ground, as I move in constant motion around them they evolve, they mutate throughout the working process.
