With my primary education in fine arts, as a director of TV commercials I always found drawing my own story boards for the proposed film myself quite satisfying.
Taking this to the next level and making a painting out of a story board was quite challenging, as normal TV commercials offer either humor, drama or some form of conflict to sell their product whereas a painting has other parameters.
Smoke FRIENDS and be popular was the first in this series. (10 paintings of the same size and format)
Like most TV commercials we identify the problem then the product is applied/ used and we have a solution and a happy customer.
Storyboard: ~(Verb) a series of events drawn / painted / designed within a sequence of frames in varying styles depicting the plot / story of a film / commercial / Television series / work of art (pl.) –s
Frames outline surrounding drawing / painting / design usually black, used to depict the frame of a TV screen or cinema screen. The formats usually encountered for the screens were 3:4 for TV ( now 16:9) and 1:1.85 for cinema. The number of screens or frames per storyboard is left entirely to the discretion of the storyboard artist.
The drawing / painting / designs inside the frame can be done in either black & white or in color, differing in style as long as the concept of the story is clearly depicted.
The style should enhance the actual story told, giving it character and taking it to another dimension for the viewer of the drawing / painting / design.
Additional information supplied on the storyboard could be directions for the casting, stylist and wardrobe or viewer.
Short hand or abbreviations commonly used on storyboards are:
C/U – close up, W/S – wide shot, M/S – medium shot also known as mid shot, MVO – male voice over, FVO – female voice over, VO – voice over

Biography
Born in South Africa 1951. Studied Fine Arts Painting at the Pretoria Art School. Graduated and started his career working for his mentor, Hans Potgieter, South African Kinetic Artist for nearly a year, until a job as Art Director in a local feature film became available. Three months later joined the SABC TV and did a BBC TV training course for 9 months, learning all aspects of television, cameras, sound, editing. Seven years of editing and started directing documentaries and TV commercials. Always painting when possible as the hours in TV were long and hard.
In 1990 came to Portugal to do a film and was invited to stay and work.
In 2000 had my first one-man exhibition in Portugal a series Story Boards consisted of 10 paintings acrylic on canvas (150 x 219 cm)
Followed by my product launch of ZEN, peace in a can. 1,000 (limited edition) cans of ZEN with large canvas of Buddha (70.9 H x 82.7 W IN) featuring a levitating can of ZEN.as well as 6 individual paintings of ZEN cans in different colors and languages (39H x 39W IN).
The next series was products and public service announcements. Durex Pleasuremax 20 (70.9 H x 82.7 W IN) a large Raphael inspired group of nudes in a tropical setting followed by Vespa Scooters and Red Star Coffee both (59H x 86,5W IN) Followed by Kill every motherfuckingbugandcreature in your garden, a fictitious product against pesticides in general a PSA for Save the Rhino’s and one for Conservation.
The latest series on Government Warnings consists of four canvas’s currently and a 5th is being painted. The first was Watch 19.7 H x 15.7 W, followed Red Star Beer 65 H x 25.6 W, Lipstick 49.2 H x 25.6 W and Relationships 39.4 H x 47.2 W. all acrylic and vinyl on canvas.

E porque não a lata Zen pintada "em tela"?! Será que o significado não será o mesmo?! Parabéns pela ideia: a lata, que é lata, e a representação dela. O significado é o mesmo, apenas o material que o suporta muda. Por mim, gosto mais da representação. Trata-se de "pintura". A lata, que é mesmo lata, também tem arte: a ilustração do rótulo. A intenção significante está nas duas formas, mas creio que é uma questão de se querer ou não acabar com a 'pintura sobre tela'. Será uma questão de gosto, ou falta dele?! Um assunto que dá pano para muiiitas mangas :)
Eu gosto da ironia inerente ao que esta lata representa. Creio que qualquer um gostará de, pelo menos, uma lata de paz. Tem mais significado do que latas cheias de merda, como as do artista italiano Piero Manzoni . Desculpe o vernáculo, mas como sabe é infelizmente um facto. Desculpa, estave pensar em Storyboards. O Buddha foi uma serie depois tinha enlatada ZEN (1,000 Latas) tem mais coisas.
