ABOUT GHISLAINE SABITI
Ghislaine Sabiti is an interdisciplinary Congolese-born artist who was raised on the outskirts of Paris in France. She was introduced to art at a very young age. At twelve years old she studied fine art at Atelier Chantier du Coq and graduated with honors in fashion design from Atelier Chardon Savard in Paris, France. Congolese art is part of her roots and it is the catalyst to the collection of her work. She has been influenced by artists of the 19th century and also by Vincent van Gogh, Gustav Klimt, Cezanne, Tamara Lempicka, Manet and Verneer.
She highlights the technical form used in both Congolese and European arts, which stress form and color. She works with a large scale, uses different textile techniques, produces relevant research regarding current social and cultural topics that also can be illustrated through her art and make significant commentary, which stir vibrant public debate. Her works develop projects between communities and collecting fractured narratives for social change through identity.
Her experiences of inter and cross-continental migrations developed her sensibility to cross-interculturalism and to a plurality of language which she explores in her interest to sew and paint different cultures, everyday people, live model drawing and landscapes with the assistance of her two favorite tools the knife and energetic bold brushstrokes.

Invisible Molili

Ghislaine Sabiti's new art exhibition The Invisible Molili, meaning an Invisible Obscurity in the Lingala Congolese language, builds a bridge between communities through collecting fractured narratives for social change and identity. This new body of work explores the stories of those often forgotten or misunderstood.
Ghislaine Sabiti's technique sheds light on the shadows that exist in our world.
Her sensibility to an interculturalism and plurality of language infused with unique sewing and embroidery techniques creates bold stroke brushes.

The Invisible Molili Exhibition will take place in Rio Gallery III in the new Sugar Hill building and the Children's Museum of Art & Storytelling at 898 St.Nicholas Ave. and 155th St. .The exhibit will be view from September 18th to November 17th.

ABOUT GHISLAINE
Ghislaine Sabiti is a Congolese born artist. She grew up in France and spent most of her life in South Paris where she was introduced to art at a very young age. In the early 90's, she studied fine art at Atelier Chantier du Coq in France where she did many group exhibitions and been influence by 19 century artist like Vincent van Gogh, Gustav Klimt. She also graduated with honors in fashion design from Atelier Chardon Savard in Paris. This education was instrumental in giving her direction in formulating her style and technique. Her art is an expression of her life experiences including a focus on the people she met on her multiple trips through Europe, Africa and North America. Her French-Congolese heritage helped to instill in her a knowledge, wealth, and cultural awareness which is reflected in her art and perspective on life. “I always used form and movement in my paintings because of my fashion education and textile background. I am used to working with fabric (due to my fashion education) and it too has influenced my art a lot,” she remarked. She often working from life models, landscape with the assistance of my two favorite tools -- the knife and the brush -- I also use oil and primary colors to create a texture that gives my canvas an impression of abstract movement,” she said.
