She has achieved her College Degree in the “Accademia di Belle Arti”, famous art academy in Rome (Italy), with Guttuso, Guccione, Montanarini.
she has traveled extensively and has participated in artistic events in Italy and abroad - predominantly in Paris, where she studied in “Beaux Arts” and also achieved a Degree in Archaeology and Art History in the “Sorbone” University - Paris IV.
She has lived for eight years in Paris, in the way back from a short time in Beijing she came back living in Rome, continuing to exhibit her artworks.
She has worked on public exhibitions with the Cultural Association POLISGRAMMA. Has “dressed up” the city with artworks, in a "symbolic rebuilding" of a modern city.
Gabriella Porpora has also received awards from the Foreign Affairs Ministry, and some of her work pieces are now steadily part of the” Farnesina Art Collection”. She has received several reckonings, appraisals from art experts and professionals and is also mentioned in the “Storia dell’Arte Italiana del ‘900” Art History Encyclopedia for her originality.
She primarily fashioned her art works combining several different materials from past and from present. Her artwork is fashioned principally in “Polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA)”, also called Perspex, in crafts baptized “picto-sculptures” from the artist. Her art crafts are treated with a burning technique and the artist combines and unites gloss and different qualities of color varnish used for ceramic, glaze, ink and collages.
The interests of the artist are polyvalent, oriented in the search of beauty, but also in extracting the hidden meanings or contents in every thing or object. Indeed she often plays with these contents, as a gambler, adding these different materials: Plastics, Perspex, Wood, Iron, Copper, Canvas, Paper. Each of these materials is used with its characteristics, aiming to a goal, to create sense, and drawing out meanings, causing emotions in visitors.
Gabriella Porpora believes there exists a fine but very strong bond between the past and the present. The artist says it is necessary to preserve it, to look towards our future.
If you try to find this bond through her artwork you too can feel amazed emotions.
