le petit arbre (2020) Painting by François Chevalier

This work is based on a scene I observed at a local market in a small village in Mexico. A small child and his grandmother were selling local produce. The relationship between the child and his grandmother was so strong that I wanted to immortalise it in a painting. That is why this work is called "le petit arbre" (little tree, or el arbolito in Spanish), because this child is like a little tree that will blossom with its roots, embodied by the grandmother.
I wanted to symbolise this tree by a beam of light whose roots start from the grandmother and whose ramifications land on the child in a hidden way thanks to the UV technique.

Ce travail est basé sur une scène que j'ai observée sur un marché local dans un petit village du Mexique. Un petit enfant et sa grand-mère vendaient des produits locaux. La relation entre l'enfant et sa grand-mère était si forte que j'ai voulu l'immortaliser dans un tableau. C'est pourquoi cette œuvre s'appelle "le petit arbre" (el arbolito en espagnol), car cet enfant est comme un petit arbre qui s'épanouira grâce à ses racines, incarnées par la grand-mère.
J'ai souhaité symbolisé cet arbre par un faisceau de lumière dont les racines partent de la grand-mère et les ramifications atterrissent sur l'enfant et cela de façon cachée grâce à la technique UV.
