Francisco Santos is a contemporary Portuguese painter. His paintings in the start of his artistic career were figurative expressionist in style. The figurative aspects became less distinct as time went on. He mostly concentrates on pure abstraction in the present and future, just passingly mentioning expressionist abstraction.
His most recent work appears to have changed with the introduction of paintings with colored lines, either wide or thin. The characteristics of these line paintings are contrasts, serene harmony, balance, and tonal beauty. Strong, vibrant tones and gentle watercolor values are all present in the vibrant palette, which reaches its height when it is put in parallel on the canvas and takes on an almost black and white intensity.
