LE TAUREAU (2012) Sculpture by Francesco Moretti

Francesco Moretti was born in 1955 in Conegliano (Veneto), Italy. After studying art, he moved more specifically to scenography and photography. It was in 2006 that he began to work metal sheets according to the language that is his now and around which his work concentrates, drawing from the living: human bodies, plants, animals. It is not intended to reinvent them, but rather to rediscover them, to capture the essence in order to give a different reading. To do this, it works through filters: memory on the one hand, the various drawings, sketches and models on the other hand. This time of maturation allows him to retain only the essential. Only then comes the moment to sculpt. When others work the metal by confrontation - compression, hammering - or choose to push it into its intrenchments until it loses any substance - melting - he, chooses to accompany it. Understanding of the matter from which results a form of evidence of the gesture. Folded, curved like paper would be, metal becomes a material, light, delicate. When the original sheet of metal gains in volume and in curves, the subject appears: figures in construction, captured at the instant when the subject becomes intelligible. The edges of the metal plate constitute an additional drawing.
