Biography
Marc Majoullier, sculptor and photographer, is an artist who has dedicated himself to the art of blacksmithing and sculpture since 1993. His artistic journey has led him to explore a variety of traditional and contemporary techniques, making him a versatile craftsman and a passionate creator.
Since 1997, Marc has specialized in artistic cutlery, devoting himself mainly to the creation of personalized knives. He quickly understood that cutlery offered an infinite palette of artistic expressions thanks to the diversity of materials and techniques. This period allowed him to master complex blacksmithing techniques, such as damask steel and laminated steel, as well as hot sculpture, where he works pure iron, copper and steel at temperatures ranging from 800 to 1200 degrees Celsius.
Over the years, Marc has honed his skills working on materials as diverse as mammoth ivory for sculpture and engraving (scrimshaw), as well as lost wax casting of metals such as bronze, brass and aluminum. His creations have become true works of art, exhibited at renowned events such as the SICAC (Salon International du Couteau d'Art Custom) in Paris and the Salon International du Couteau de Thiers.
However, Marc's passion for sculpture ultimately led him to free himself from the constraints of knife blades and explore a much broader field of artistic expression. His favorite technique consists of working the raw iron on the anvil, modeling it without welding other elements or removing material. This unique approach allows him to maintain homogeneity and visual balance while pushing the limits of creativity.
Marc's art is a perpetual challenge where the material resists and bends to his artistic vision. He sculpts fleeting or deep emotions, feelings and memories, seeking to capture the eternity of an emotion frozen in the material. This quest for eternity guided him towards a particular artistic approach focused on the preservation of collective memory through figurative and abstract works. He transforms digital memory into tangible art, creating prints, casts and forges that capture and preserve our collective history as artistic fossils. Marc Majoullier's work transcends temporality to create works that resonate in the eternity of art.

Du fer pour modeler.....
Je suis forgeron sculpteur depuis 1993, spécialisé dans les techniques de forge ancienne, la coutellerie d'art et la fonderie. Coutelier d'art depuis 1997, je me suis orienté dès le début vers le couteau custom. Ce domaine de la coutellerie permet une infinie possibilité d'expression artistique à travers les matériaux les plus divers. Cela m'a permis de découvrir des techniques de forge complexes comme l'acier damassé, l'acier feuilleté, la sculpture à chaud (entre 800° et 1200°) au burin du fer pur, du cuivre, et de l'acier. Ajouté à cela la sculpture et gravure sur ivoire de mammouth (scrimshaw), le moulage à la cire perdue de bronze, laiton et aluminium, Le couteau devenait alors oeuvre d'art. J'ai pu ainsi m'exposer au SICAC (salon international du couteau d'art custom) à Paris, au salon international du couteau de Thiers, au Country Show d'Auteuil et participer en tant que démonstrateur de forge au F.I.L.M, festival international de l'image des métiers à Pézénas, organisé par Patrice Drevet. Les techniques acquises, il ne me restait qu'un pas à faire pour m'orienter vers la sculpture et me débarrasser des contraintes liées à la lame et à l'objet couteau. Depuis, je fais évoluer mes techniques, le champ d'action étant beaucoup plus vaste que le couteau, je peux laisser libre cours à mon imagination et trouver LA méthode pour LA sculpture. C'est une recherche permanente pour rendre le matériau fer, d'ordinaire froid et dur, doux et malléable comme le serait de l'argile. La technique consiste à démarrer d'une pièce de fer brut et de la modeler sans y souder d'autres éléments et sans enlever de matière. Le fer est travaillé sur l'enclume, et déformé grâce à différents burins qui vont déplacer la matière. Le fait de ne pas rajouter d'éléments par soudure, c'est à dire en développant la matière dans les trois dimensions me permet de garder une homogénéité et un équilibre visuel. C'est à chaque fois le même défis qui m'anime, comme si je pouvais modeler à main nues ce fer chauffé à 1000°. L'outil devient la main. Mes émotions en sculptant sont proportionnelles à la dureté du matériau. J'aime que la matière résiste, suive mes ressentis et se fige à tout jamais. C'est la quête d'éternité d'une émotion, d'un sentiment fugace ou profond.
Cette quête d'éternité m'a guidée vers ma démarche artistique, la préservation de la mémoire sous forme de cartes mémoires, des bas reliefs, des tableaux représentant notre memoire collective sous forme fossilisées, figées dans la matière. Le numérique rejoint la matière brute sous forme de gravures, moulage, forge...
De l'asile à la prison, de la mort à la naissance, j'ai accumulé nombre d'émotions, joies ou peines, elles m'ont forgé et par résilience, je vous les forges aujourd'hui.
