APPROACH
Mainly influenced by American Abstract Expressionism , Brigitte Garcia, adept at "all-over" and "action-painting", most often paints on large-format canvases. His paintings are a way to express his sensitivity, to resonate with other sensibilities, to "re-enchant" the world.
If his painting is abstract expressionist, she does not however seek to abstract herself from reality. The series "Breaks and antidotes", "Life", "Ceremony", "Renaissance" question the dark and light parts of our current world.
His journey through painting, it wants to be initiatory, it creates palimpsests whose successive layers leave visible only traces, memory of the essential. His pictorial writing is oriented towards an emptiness conducive to silence, contemplation, meditation. The series "Le temps suspended" invites the viewer to meditate, ask oneself, stop acting, observe, welcome without trying to modify, to control.
Through immersion total in color, the loss of sensory landmarks, the vertigo effect, the confusion of limits, she tries to reach the "sacred" through art, in art and to get closer, through this quest, to artists such as Turner, Rothko, Soulages, Turrel, Olafur Eliasson.
In her latest series "Gold", she introduces gold, matter, color, light, value which brings it closer to illuminations and writings of the 13th century, paintings of the Italian primitives of the 13th and 14th centuries, the "Monogold" by Klein, the "Gold Painting" by Rauschenberg, the works of James Lee Byars...She continues on her way which consists in incarnating again and again... the spiritual in matter: between matter and idea, art and life, appearance and disappearance, West and East...»
Isn't this quest for the sacred, the spiritual through art and in art with the aim of illuminating, of "illuminating" life ? "This experience of nothingness is not a path to the divine, but rather a search for perfection in the everyday world, for eternity in the present moment."
