This is a representation of Albrecht Durer's Melancholia. As I thought about what melancholia was, I came to the conclusion that it is not the feeling of sadness, as most think of the term. Melancholia is the point when an artist is contemplating either a subject, lighting, or the next step in achieving the art technique. This deep contemplation is mistaken to be depression. In making My Melancholia, I spent several hours in this pose contemplating my next step in the process of learning (thus the tree of knowledge being the focal point of the melancholic woman). The tulips represent the 7 steps towards enlightenment, which in the case of women, is the 7 steps towards purity.

This painting is stretched on 1 1/2" edged canvas bars. The edge is completely painted and finished for hanging without a frame, but could be framed if wanted.

Alchemical Art:

Transmutation

_______--And--_______

Transformation

I am currently working to become a full-time artist in Washington State. My subjects consist primarily of the metaphysical arts including alchemy, spirituality, theosophy, religion, mathematics, and qabbalah. The goal of most of my art is to achieve spiritual enlightenment through the artistic process, while transmuting my basal "lead" mass into the golden light of alchemists past. I study all occult subjects in my sparetime (what little of it there is) and use symbolism to represent these ideas and images throughout my art. Some of my art pieces are dreams (see Ancahuincan Fluxgate) and some are visions I have during meditations (see Ayahuasca Logos).

I am a professional custom framer for my current career until I can subsist on my art, so I pay close attention to art sizing, leaving edging for stretching or framing, or I frame or mat pieces myself using only the highest available materials for preservation purposes.
