For a long time, the author did not print his work, did not see the slightest sense in it — after all, most of the photos on the screen look the same as when printing or even better. And I wanted to find something that gives additional value to the printed image. Later, as a result of many experiments, it was possible to choose a combination of file preparation, printing technology and paper, which makes the image close to engraving or lithography and ensures the safety of work for more than 100 years. And then a lot of shades and nuances appear, which are not visible on the monitor, and the work turns into a beautiful interior decoration.

Almost all the work was shot with lenses of the famous German companies Carl Zeiss and Leica — these are heavy, glass + metal, lenses without autofocus and zoom. The author selects a collection of special lenses, each with its own character. Some are the latest models, some — produced in 1978, when they used to make optical glass differently and use different optical schemes. Due to this, excellent sharpness and contrast are created throughout the frame, a special, picturesque transparent corporate bokeh (blurring of what is out of focus); special drawing of chiaroscuro. Image processing is performed using Capture One from the Danish company Phase One, a manufacturer of high-end studio photographic equipment, each work is selected from hundreds and sometimes thousands of shots.

Alexei Aigui's Palimpsest 2021 with my coverphoto
Alexei Aigui is one of the most striking and versatile Russian composers. The success of his soundtrack to Valery Todorovsky’s Country of the Deaf was so mind blowing that it turned the Russian music life in the late 1990s upside down. Thanks to him, soundtracks masterfully entered the concert halls and clubs, and instrumental music peaked the interest of the general public. With ease, Aigui combines the piercing sensuality with strict form; the touching beauty of sound with experiments, minimalism and neoclassics with avanguard. He has written dozens of instrumental scores and more than 50 soundtracks for films by Raoul Peck, Hirokazu Koreeda, Pascal Bonitzer, Pavel Lungin, Kirill Serebrennikov among others. His track record will add an HBO project at the end of 2020. His compositions are performed by leading Russain musicians like pianists Alexei Lyubimov and Alexei Goribol, violinist Tatiana Gridenko, Opus Posth ensemble, St.Petersburg Symphony Orchestra among others. As a violinist, he initiated international projects with various musicians including the famous French composer and creator of sound machines, Pierre Bastien, french jazz-singer Mina Agossi, German pianist Dietmar Bonnen, and Japanese violinist Keisuke Ota, and actively performs with his ensemble “4’33’’”. He plays on well-respected world stages and festivals in Germany, France, Japan, Belgium and Russia.
