Looking for a unique piece of art?
Hyperrealism, sometimes referred to as photorealism, is a new genre of painting and drawing comparing the output on a computer monitor to an actual photograph. It was first pioneered in the 1970s with the works of Andy Warhol. In its early days hyperrealism was criticized by some of the leading figures in art, as it was considered to be an imitation of photography.
Although hyperrealism has its critics, many people consider it to be an exhilarating and even beautiful form of art. Some examples of hyperrealism include artworks such as Warhol's Cow and Chicken, which is made into a series of hyperrealistic images that give the appearance of a cows real egg laying inside a chicken's stomach, a painting by Paul Gauguin entitled The Theme of the Cave, and the painting entitled The Yellow House. Other examples of hyperrealism paintings include The Blue House by Gauguin, The Luscious Nocturne by Paul Gauguin, Flowers from the Garden of Forgetfulness by Paul Gauguin, The Rainbow (aka The Bathhouse), and The Dog. A number of sculptural works based around hyperrealism can be found in the public domain.
A major influence on the development of hyperrealism was the work of French artist Paul Gauguin. He was a pioneer of the art called 'photorealism', which involves using photographs instead of paintings for the purposes of making art. Some of his most famous works include Habit, Le Prince Amour, and The Night Cafe. Interest in hyperrealism began to grow in the late 1960s, with the publication of The Logo.
