Sir Edward Coley Burne-Jones, was a British painter and designer who lived from August 28, 1833, to June 17, 1898. He was a member of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood, which also included Dante Gabriel Rossetti, John Millais, Ford Madox Brown, and Holman Hunt. Burne-Jones was a founding partner in the company Morris, Marshall, Faulkner & Co. with William Morris. The company made decorative arts.
Burne-early Jones's paintings show how Dante Gabriel Rossetti influenced him, but by 1870, he had found his own style. Eight of his oil paintings were shown at the Grosvenor Gallery in 1877. (a new rival to the Royal Academy). One of these was The Bewitching of Merlin. Burne-Jones was picked up at the right time as a leader and star of the new Aesthetic Movement.
Burne-Jones worked as a designer for a wide range of crafts in the studio of Morris and Co. He made ceramic tiles, jewelry, tapestries, and mosaics, among other things. His designs for stained glass windows, which became popular again in the 19th century, are some of his most important and lasting works. Even today, his designs can be seen in churches all over the UK, as well as in the US and Australia.
