Both dressed in immaculate white summer dresses, they walk through a field of spent flowers. The field of flowers is a collage of straw flowers.
Above them, the sky is full of threatening dark thunderclouds that cast a shadow over the pair.
After a beautiful long day, they are on their way home before they are beset by a threatening thunderstorm.
The contrast of the abstract and the concrete, the past and the present, forms a harmonious whole. The field of straw flowers testifies to a story being told. The two figures painted in black and white, reminiscent of old photographs of the past as well as the scene of the walk of woman and child on a summer day through an empty landscape

db Waterman is a contemporary Dutch artist. In her works she assembles original photography, assorted papers, acrylics, oil, charcoal, ink, and pencil. The variety of resources she is able to use has proved indispensable to her. The biggest challenge the collage medium posed was its unforgiving lack of transparency. Finding a way to replicate the effects of transparency afforded by paint, especially watercolors, was a large victory for the artist. The preparing labor shows through in her collages; layer upon layer of material remains visible in the finished pieces.
db Waterman believes that the body of her work is characterized by her skill for reinvention. Having always loved the appearance of weathered walls plastered with peeling paint and old posters, she revived this aesthetic with hopefully a keen and professional eye. The creative objective of her work is to “make something beautiful out of dilapidation.” Her tableaus explore the dissonance between old and new materials, intertwined in the most beautiful way possible to create dreamlike and melancholy images.
