Dariusz Romanowski is a contemporary Polish artist who views his artwork as an ongoing journey, constantly pushing the boundaries of artistic form. He achieves this by embarking on a process of exploration, evolution, and progression of key themes, always striving to attain different effects in terms of depth, technique, light, and form through the experimentation with various materials and styles. His creative process involves working in series, which allows him to iterate, explore, and develop a central theme.

Each series originates from a distinct visualization of a specific number of works, each utilizing a range of different media that are entirely specific to that particular series. The act of painting one series opens up new realms of interest and possibilities, subsequently leading to the exploration of themes in the next series. At first glance, the connections between these series may not be immediately apparent. However, when viewed sequentially, the clear linkage and progression of key themes, concerns, and techniques become evident.

One of the most striking effects that Dariusz Romanowski has achieved in his work is the powerful impact of layering paint on a flat surface to create a three-dimensional form. This innovation was first introduced in the "Women" series, where he sought to create a monumental, forceful, and weighty presence in the depiction of women. Through the thick layering of paint, the use of diverse painting and brush stroke styles, and the incorporation of materials such as cloth, he brought depth and vitality to the flesh, clothing, hair, skin, and features of the women, causing them to extend outward from the canvas.

In his most recent series, titled "Heads," Dariusz Romanowski revisits the theme of women as subjects, further exploring the abstraction of form that was initially examined in the "Bodies" series. In "Heads," he meticulously studies the effects of movement, abstraction, and distortion on the faces of women. With this series, as with his other works, Romanowski employs a direct and rapid approach, creating images through an immediate yet methodical chance of brush strokes. This immediacy in brushwork represents and mirrors the actual disintegration of flesh and features, imbuing his works with an undiluted purity akin to the initial brushstroke on a blank canvas.
