Artistic concern:
It is the faces of people, that connect them with other faces and their environment, reflect their lives and their environment. We learned early to interpret facial expressions. But for me the challenge is to draw them with their feelings: fear, joy, sadness, love, anger and disgust.
I've been drawing since I was a student. Drawing has always been part of my life, both professionally and privately. It is the intensity, the complex and hidden nature of the expression and the story behind it that fascinates me, the challenge of putting it all “on paper”. I want to capture the “moods” reflected in it, and also the story behind it. The viewer must feel directly addressed on an emotional level. But what exactly does it make the viewer feel? And who is looking at whom? Questions that only the viewer and the image can solve together.
