All my works tend to develop from a seed idea, observation or a sketch. Visual tensions between bodies of colour or 'objects' that emerge during the process of painting excite me and so I leave them in situ. All my works tend to develop from a seed idea, observation or a sketch. Visual tensions between bodies of colour or 'objects' that emerge during the process of painting excite me and so I leave them in situ. Red is an example except in this particular case I painted literal strings to hold them together. I love it. It was one of my most satisfying paintings. The red panels are concealing something behind an obstructed 'doorway' and I want to go there and explore . I try to maintain that sense of visual engagement in the observer.
