When man is in trouble, God sends him a dog.
Digital archival print. The photograph features a dead dog on the side of Highway 26 near Lake Arthur, Louisiana. The text is a quote attributed to the French romantic poet Alphonse de Lamartine.
Brent Mitchell has been practicing photography for over a decade. Having grown up in southwestern Louisiana, Brent often turns to the small towns and their people as subjects.
Brent currently works as a collections assistant at the Dallas Museum of Art. His master's thesis research focuses on photographs taken in Louisiana by Farm Security Administration photographer Russell Lee. It is entitled "Capturing the Ordinary: Russell Lee in Southeastern Louisiana" and is accessible by visiting docs/available/etd-04062004-154900/.
