From the Cosmic Dance to his aliens and My Planet, Biswajit Panda is an artist whose canvases tap into the energy of the universe presenting a transcendental experience. His unique and spontaneous combination of colors, energetic strokes, and streaks of paint enliven the variety of mediums he engages in, from the canvas to paperwork and now even digital works.
Born in 1973 in small-town Balasore Odisha, he currently resides and works in Delhi. Panda Graduated in Performing Art (Sitar) From Prachin Kala Kendra Chandigarh. After which he pursued Higher Studies under the guidance of Pt. Biswajit Roy Chaudhary, at Sri Ram Bharatiya Kala Kendra, New Delhi.
A recurring motif in Panda’s work that is highly expressionistic, is the butterfly, amidst this profusion of dripping colors. The butterfly is a symbol of hope, resurrection, and change according to Christian theology. According to Hindu belief, the butterfly is a symbol of rebirth. Just like the caterpillar’s metamorphosis into a butterfly, death doesn’t end our existence but frees us to pursue even greater development. Building upon these pre-existing symbolisms, Biswajit has added his own secrets that are inscribed on their wings, mathematical calculations, and personal stories that reveal themselves upon closer inspection.
His latest digital work deals with the notion of the Alien, who is actually a permutation of human existence, from the Galactic Zoo, which is part of this universe. It throws into question what is normal and what is strange while it hints towards an ironic possibility that the familiar is morphing into the eccentric. Panda’s works are cathartic and cleansing, a powerhouse of positive energy that has culled itself out of vicissitude and trying times.
