New life (2021) Painting by Atelier-Marchand

If Olivier and Fabien Marchand were not born on the same day, they nevertheless give off a feeling of twinship. Like the twins, they are different, distinct, but nurture a relationship of brotherhood that goes beyond words. The hardness of one responds to the softness of the other but who, better than a painter, knows the fragility of appearances...

Painting, they were introduced to it by their uncle – the uncle Parisian – the mentor, from childhood: drips of colors, scents of turpentine and linseed oil, caressing sable hair on the back of the hand, scraping the brush on the canvas… All these sensations rooted in their existence in its spring have germinated and flourished continuously, according to the time that their lives – family first, professional too – concede to them.

If they find themselves in the abstract, their respective styles are in their image: opposites and complements.

One delights in bringing out a glimmer of deep, melancholy tones; the other brings out the primary colours, reds and ochres. The first lets the spontaneity of movement occupy the canvas, the other plays with moving the frames, containing its interiority.

Who is talking about Art? Olivier and Fabien paint pictures: artifice? artifact? Their only claim is to arouse desire, perhaps emotion, in any case the pleasure of discovery.
