Dialectic of transformation - where do we come from, where are we going?

The human being in relation to nature and technology in the field of tension of becoming is thematically an essential feature of my terracotta sculptures. I am interested in the point where the opposites cancel each other out, but nevertheless combine these polar potentials and thus contain an ambivalent structure. The question of space and time, whether it is organic or technical, human or machine, remains open.

In the artistic process I formed and arched directly out of a whole block of clay. Mass is replaced by space, whereby the spiral-shaped space structure brings dynamic strength and stability with it. In the energetic process of the smoke firing, the terracotta sculpture undergoes a further transformation.

Arne Petersen is a contemporary German sculptor. The interplay between humanity, nature, and technology, in the context of continuous evolution, is a central theme in his terracotta sculptures. He explores the point where opposing forces intersect, acknowledging their inherent contradictions while combining their polar potentials to create an ambivalent structure. The question of space and time, whether organic or technological, human or mechanical, remains open and unresolved.

In his artistic process, he directly shapes and molds the clay from a solid block, transforming mass into space. The spiral-shaped spatial structure imbues the sculptures with dynamic strength and stability. Through the energetic process of smoke firing, the terracotta sculptures undergo further transformation and metamorphosis.

Since 2010, Arne Petersen has been actively involved in group exhibitions held in galleries and museums both within Germany and abroad. Notably, his sculptures have been included in the Public Collection at the Museum of Ceramic Art in Ascoli Piceno, Italy.
