Laurent Angeli is a contemporary French painter. Angeli's formal artistic education began with a foundation in painting, where he spent three formative years studying the fundamentals of this timeless craft at the prestigious rue Madame school in the 6th arrondissement of Paris. His passion for art led him to further specialize in graphics, where he honed his skills during a year of study at the renowned Gobelins school, also in Paris. These educational experiences provided him with a strong foundation in both traditional painting and graphic design.

Throughout his life, Laurent Angeli balanced his career as an independent graphic designer and artistic director in advertising agencies with his enduring love for painting. His early artistic expressions were rooted in the hyperrealist tradition, where he explored a wide range of subjects, from everyday household items like cans of household products to vehicles such as shoes, motorcycles, and cars. These initial explorations allowed him to master the intricacies of technique and realism.

As his artistic journey evolved, Laurent Angeli shifted his focus to more introspective themes. His repertoire expanded to include self-portraits, intimate family portraits, and captivating views of Paris, all rendered in the rich and versatile mediums of Indian ink and oil paint. His deep connection with these subjects brought forth a distinct visual narrative, capturing the essence of human experience in intricate detail.

Currently, Laurent Angeli is engaged in two distinct series of work. The first comprises a series of large-format oil portraits of "street people," rendered in black and white, where his skilled brushwork brings out the character and stories etched on their faces. In parallel, he is also creating a series of Indian ink drawings that vividly depict street scenes, capturing the vibrant tapestry of life unfolding in urban environments.

"The street, the people, life" are recurring themes in Laurent Angeli's work, reflecting his profound connection to the human experience and the ever-changing dynamics of the cityscape. He draws inspiration from a diverse range of artistic influences, including the hyperrealists Chuck Close and David Parrish, as well as iconic American painters Edward Hopper and Norman Rockwell.
