I then put these pieces awy for a long time & forget about them until i can be objective.I love gouache , it's so malleable ..even years later if i don't like it i stick it in the shower and partially wash it off to start again .

About me the ...: I am a British painter based in Brussels since '95 .I live and work in a big industrial building, an artist's community, in the city centre. I first tried oil painting when I was 13 and few days have gone by without me picking up a brush since. What I loved about oil painting as a teenager , the smell , the glossy colour , the fascinating names of the pigments and the amazing ways I could spread it around, I still love now. Painting has also retained for me its enduring fascination beyond its physical properties. Its infinite world of possibilities never fails to amaze me . This oily medium is capable of generating an endless variety of physical & emotional responses even though the subject matter is clichéd or mundane.Proof , if it were needed , of the enduring power of meaning in an old medium in a time of image gluttony.

My medium is as traditional as is my imagery: people, landscape, nature and interiors.Places , people and scenes we see everyday. The ordinary is extraordinary enough for me.
It is in the process of painting them that they become other. It is through painting that small things are revealed to me. It is when painting and on the cusp of disaster that magic can occur .I am prepared to let it lead me to places where I did not intend to go .

I make paintings but do not compartementalise myself , create labels or make a pre- determined history for what the painting must look like. To do so would be to shut the doors on the unexpected and it is precisely the unexpected and a willingness to embrace the accidental which can open minds and reveal a beauty impossible to think up or plan beforehand
