This "Loulou Sama" tapestry is part of a series that I called "Les humeurs de la terre/earth moods". In this tapestry collection, I honor the Earth. Thus, I celebrate our mother to all: her colors, her seasons, her moods and all her vegetable, animal, mineral, vegetal and human souls. Because as Victor Hugo says so well "Everything speaks". Indeed we are permanently interconnected with Everything, "Everything lives". I'm starting this series in the fall. The earthy tones, anthracite, passing through all the brown shades of the soil, the yellow ochres, the golds, the shadows are celebrated. And on this Art Brut tapestry, I used scraps of burlap and publisher's fabrics. The pieces of fabric are washed, some dyed with walnut husk, ocher and coffee. They are assembled, layered and embroidered as you go, by instinct. All the threads are jute threads that I prepare, and dyed in advance. I embroider everything by hand, and I use different stitch techniques. For example, I borrow the little dots of Japanese "sashiko" that I heckle. I also use the chain stitch, the stitch of thorns, of ladders. The title of this small tapestry refers to my late cat "Loulou Sama". It is both a tribute to our Earth and to my beautiful black cat that I embroidered in gold.
