Alan Lawrence is a contemporary American sculptor. He art directed the campaigns for Volkswagen, Sony, Polaroid and AVIS. Later, as a creative director in Los Angeles and Seattle, he created campaigns for Neutrogena, Renaissance Hotels, Nordstrom, Holland America Line, the Pacific Northwest Ballet, Martin Luther King Jr. Day and JanSport. He’s directed videos with Divine and worked with Andy Warhol in NY. His awards include Clios, London International Advertising Awards, Addys and Emmys.
In his opinion the line between a piece of art and its viewer should be as short as possible, pure and direct. Living in a world where art is forced to take a back seat to business and politics, now more than ever, it’s important to take the time to appreciate art. And it can be seen absolutely everywhere. Lawrence’s surrealistic, weightless pieces are meant to be simple and dissonant.
Alan Lawrence was born in 1965, in New York City, where he went to the Parsons School of Design and studied Art History at New York University.
