Zbigniew Dowgiałło was a forerunner of new figuration (neo-expressionism) of the nineteen eighties.
He is one of the greatest contemporay polish painter.

Zbigniew Maciej Dowgiałło, together with Wojciech Tracewski, is the precursor of New Expression in its most radical, "wild" version. He was one of the loudest, most iconoclastic, most active, flagship, so to speak, artists of the 1980s. Repeatedly described by critics, eagerly bought by collectors, operating under the aegis of one of the most important curators of that time - Andrzej Bonarski, often called "enfant terrible of young art, always independent, anarchic, free.

Krzysztof Stanisławski -  Polish culture expert, art critic and curator of exhibitions, director
Center for Contemporary Art "Znaki Czasu" in Toruń.

Born in 1961 in Gdańsk. He began his studies in 1980 at the State College of Fine Arts in Gdańsk, which he continued subsequently at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. He received his diploma in 1986.
He participated in the most important exhibitions of the "nineteen-eighties' expression". Initially he created dynamic, impulsive compositions featuring sharp colours. Gradually, he engaged in dialogue with the traditions of culture and art using huge symbolic canvasses.
Since 1987 he has created precursory visions of art of the future: Baroque-Cosmic paintings and designs for Cosmic Era architecture.
Over the years 1988-1990 he stayed in New York.
After his return to Poland he presented large format paintings devoted to visions
of the world of the future, displayed at exhibitions Kunst, Europa in Bonn (Germany)
and Polish Chic (Polski szyk) at 'Zachęta' in Warsaw.
Since 1994 he runs the graphics and computer animation studio "Dow & Dow".
He is the author and producer of the Great Multimedia World Atlas (Wielki Multimedialny Atlas Świata) published by PPWK.
Since 1999 he creates the fully fledged computer animation feature film entitled Apocalypse 2027. He is a laureate of numerous prestigious awards in the domain of computer animation and graphics. He is the author of several film screenplay
scenarios.
In the years 2001-2002 he was a lecturer of animation and digital art at Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design in Denver, Colorado (USA). He lives and works in Warsaw.
His recent work was exhibited at the Museum od Modern Art in Warsaw. (2012)
