This piece 'FUKU HAUSZI' is a fusion between Japanese WABI SABI and BAUHAUS abstract. A construction of shapes with various angles and heights deliberately made uneven so the light and shadow dance remains dynamic, depending on the time of day or when a spotlight is aimed at the art work.
Due to the ‘LAYERING & DESTROYING’ technique the shapes appear weathered with character, created structure by adding ground coffee, salt and cinnamon mixed with paint.Leaving space all around the assembly of the shapes, gives the appearance of an Asian symbol/ character:
FUKU in Japanese meaning: GOOD FORTUNE, HAPPINESS, A BLESSING.
A subtle logo in relief stamped in the right corner of the artwork.
All my works have an all over relief GOLD structured paint back side and a handcrafted GOLD-CLAY logo label.

My sculptural works are inspired by a variety of cultures and time periods. Creating compositions that harness the ever-shifting play of light and shadows that transform throughout the day. This dynamic quality combined with the structures of the materials imbues each piece with a sense of fluidity and impermanence.
My work can be described as ’slow art’ due to the layers it takes to create the Wabi Sabi effect. I make each piece by hand from beginning to finish. Containing partly recycled materials for shaping and layering using clay, cement, paint combined with unorthodox materials such as coffee, salt, cinnamon or crushed eyeshadow powder creating structure and a subtle shimmer iridescent effect with a wink to Japanese Kintsugi technique.
My aim is to craft an aesthetic that resonates with the interconnected nature of today’s modern world; creating contemporary wall sculptures that will transcend time.
