Larbi Zaidi, a contemporary French artist from Montbéliard in the Doubs region, is deeply immersed in the world of 'art brut', creating works that are both demanding and spontaneous. Self-taught and passionately dedicated to painting from a young age, Zaidi currently resides and works in the Aisne region of France, where he settled two decades ago. With a degree in Art Therapy from René Descartes University in Paris V, Zaidi has established numerous pictorial expression workshops, specifically designed for disabled children, showcasing his commitment to art as a therapeutic tool.
Zaidi's painting style is characterized by its spontaneity and singularity, evoking a sense of dissidence in our lives. His work often features notations, at times indecipherable, intertwining with painting to express a range of emotions, reminiscent of childhood drawings. However, beneath the surface lies a deeper complexity, with strong characters asserting themselves under bold black lines, reflecting the inherent struggles of existence rather than mere recreation. Zaidi's art is a form of "re-creation," capturing a world in flux, teetering between latency and movement.
In the spirit of Kandinsky, who wrote, "The artist who in his life resembles children can achieve the internal harmony of things more easily than others," Zaidi's work embodies this sentiment, resonating with a sense of childlike wonder and profound introspection. Through his art, Zaidi invites viewers to explore the internal landscapes of their own emotions, offering a glimpse into a world where chaos and harmony intersect, creating a rich tapestry of expression and meaning.
