This series came out of all those walks: early ones, late ones, wet ones, the “I’ll-just-pop-out” ones that turn into hour-long detours. Sometimes I stop and take a photo. Sometimes I just stare and file the light away in my head. Either way, it all ends up in the paint.
The reservoir gets its fair share of attention — reflections, ripples, all that water being moody — but so do the muddy footpaths, the clumps of nettles, and the fields that never quite dry out. These are not big, shouty landscapes. They’re local. Familiar. Slightly scruffy. But they’ve got heart.
I paint them how they feel rather than how they look. If the grass needs to be too green or the sky a bit more dramatic to tell the story, so be it. Nature bends the rules all the time — I’m just following suit.
