« Oh my God. Yellow, red, blue, green, colors everywhere, colors all over, it doesn’t matter, that’s know I like it… »
Walter is a graphic designer, a painter and a geniune creative artist. Inspired by Free Figuration, he started painting at the end of the 1980s. His first works consisted in large outdoors frescoes in industrial areas, settings for artistic events and gallery exhibitions. Walter is used to making the most of all kinds of materials, surfaces and environments and that’s how he has given birth to a free and higly personal expresion, deprived of any constraints.
Those last ten years though, he has spent most of his time painting funny little characters, using acrylic painting. His heroes come from his teenage years and his love for comics. They are designed in a childlike and yet culting way. He calls them « self portraits, reflecting his feelings, his emotions and sensations ». These unusual heroes stand out on the canvas, framed in white, as if the painting had been turned into a polaroid.
Walter’s art is based on immediate and spontaneous expression. It’s full of life and energy, of impulses and passions. These straightforward images are reinforced by the funny slogans, scriptures, words that he ads on the painting. That’s how he shares with the audience his point of view on our world, our society. He conveys a humoristic, sweet and nevertheless critical message that tackles our imagination.
As for his sculptures, or his totems as he calls them, they are true ritual statues, inspired by Primitive Art, made of various objects and materials assembled together.
In a nutshell, Walter mixes up traditions and modernity in a light and fun way.
