I am Terry Cervantes, I have always been an artist.
I persued my artist career by obtaining my degree in painting and drawing while working as a production potter. My first love was illustration, but I was swayed when I found clay. I worked as an art teacher in the Los Angeles County Jail System for 25 years. Since I love portrait art, that was what I taught the most. My concern for nature and our environment was a natural process as I am a lover of the desert, (where I live), and of the beach where I spent my youth looking for rocks, shells, colorful insects. Looking and drawing trees and plants was a past time that I enjoyed.
After I retired, I realized my potential by being accepted into galleries and museums in the Los Angeles County. I have sold my paintings and pottery throughout the world. I am amazed every day that I can follow my dreams. I am grateful that my work is loved and that I can touch people in a way that only artists can.
I share my paintings and sculptures in clay that portray my artwork through realistic and abstract forms of nature interacting in a world of gold, silver leaf, watercolor, and mixed media. It spills over to my ceramics with deconstructed faces of the moon (bowls, plates, cups, and jars) and abstract work that resemble future fossils and planetary visions in color and black and white on clay. My work can be functional for everyday life, but it also touches the heart and mind.
