Saúl Alija, 1997. 26 years old, Zamora.
Saúl Alija is a plastic artist trained as a painter at the age of 14 by Alberto Sánchez, one of the last living curates of the Trades Workshops of the Salesian community of Zamora, current space of the IES Universidad Laboral. From the age of 16, his pictorial training has been self-taught with the support of other artist friends.
He has a degree in Philosophy and Theology. He has recently worked with the Zamora City Council on a series of murals about the Siege of Zamora, Holy Week or some illustrious figures from Zamora such as Delhy Tejero. In this intervention he merged classical portraiture with urban art. Thanks to this performance, he was invited by the History professor of the Faculty of Teaching to the assembly hall of the Viriato Campus to present his research work. There he gave a presentation on November 28 about his work recovering historical figures from Zamora.
His last exhibition was in May 2022 under the title of Mysterium, hosted in the Baroque Cloister of the Pontifical University from Salamanca, whose works have been incorporated into the permanent collection of paintings exhibited at the University.
Last April, a 2.5-meter painting of religious representation was inaugurated in Calzada de Valdunciel (Salamanca). in front of the Churrigueresque altarpiece by Simón Gavilán Tomé from Zamora, with whom Saúl maintains an aesthetic dialogue. The result was an attempt to advance the pictorial techniques of contemporary art in sacred art.
