‘The stone cold mystery’ sets up for what should be a dramatic and exciting scene: a still from a swashbuckler perhaps. But it is not! The man cuts a diminished character, his life a parody.
The painting describes, through the use of both comedy and tragedy, the passing of time. The star of the show a middle aged man lost: his appetite to almost evaporated, his view of a universe so full of wonder clouded. In the foreground, a bullet fails to reach any momentum, instead flopping gracelessly to the ground. This could well be a description of the ark of life, where youthful ambitions and dreams fall flat on their faces, leaving behind a faded, impotent mind.

Rory Mitchell is a contemporary Norwegian painter. Although his working process relies heavily on a solid draughtsmanship, over the years this has been incorporated in a number of art disciplines, primarily oil painting and gouache painting. His intent is that the distorted lines and emotive colours lend themselves to the narratives he creates.
Today Mitchell works mostly with oil on canvas and creates figurative paintings with rich color palettes and Expressionist undertones.
Rory Mitchell was born in 1977, in Scotland, where he graduated from the Edinburgh College of Art.
