"The ninth wave" -supposedly the most powerful and destructive - is on its way. A fragment of the mast is the last refuge clung to by the sailors from a wrecked ship. The genius Aivazovsky was able to make a gloomy prospect filled with rays of the sun which endows a feeling of optimism.

Born in Jakarta, Indonesia, Raoul started painting when he was nine years old. He has always been impressed by the Dutch masters such as Vermeer and Rembrandt. He loves naturalist painters, amongst his idols are classic painters from all over the world such as Goya, Frederick Church, Remington, DaVinci, Ivan Aivazovsky and Basoeki Abdullah. He also admired impressionist painters such as Monet, Renoir, Van Gogh and the early work of Pablo Picasso. His greatest admiration is the attention to detail. According to him, there is no other artwork which depicts unbelievable detail other than "The Parthenon" an 1871 painting by Frederick Church. Now that's detail! He moved to the United States when he was 20 years old after his beloved mother passed away. He is married with three children and three grand children as of 2023. In the 56 years he has painted hundreds of paintings in oil and acrylics. While his natural style is naturalist, classic art, he does have an impressionist side of him that would come out sometimes when he whipped out his palette knives and forego the brush. He did many reproductions when requested by people. When he was a teenager, he worked for an advertising agency and designed many product covers, boxes, and labels. He enjoyed painting, flying, driving, Chess and currently he is enjoying retirement with his beloved wife of over 39 years in a quiet Virginia neighborhood.
