Cette toile évoque différents événements tristes voire traumatisants que peuvent rencontrer les femmes.
Parfois, quand la fécondation a eu lieu, cela peut mener à un œuf clair (blanc). C'est un "phénomène qui se produit lorsqu’après la fécondation de l’ovule par les spermatozoïdes, la division des cellules menant à la formation d’un embryon ne se fait pas. L’œuf s’implante tout de même dans l’utérus mais n’évolue pas." La grossesse est "non-évolutive" et il y a alors une fausse-couche.
Parfois, à l'expulsion, "le cordon ombilical est enroulé autour du cou du bébé, on parle de circulaire du cordon ombilical. Cela inquiète beaucoup de parents, mais c’est en réalité un fait assez commun et souvent sans conséquence pour la santé du fœtus.
