For Pierre-Marie Drapeau-Martin, the camera is a portable room of one's own. He digs into his immediate environment, including what might seem like blind spots, to look for signs of a metamorphosis. Also these series are anchored in a territory, a story or a relationship, over long periods of time, sometimes contemplative and sometimes live. Combined, these photographs emerge from behind closed doors to create an opening onto the world, memory and the imagination. Certain series are imbued with an aesthetic of their own, bordering on magical realism. From these insular situations a map of perceptions crystallizes. Then the different fields of life, the relationships between generations and genders can finally coexist on an equal footing, in order to meditate on what makes up family or society. This holistic connection nourishes these personal mythologies, windows of intimacy on that of others.
