Les deux demi-cercles qui constituent la structure de l’œuvre sont en fait deux demi-segments de sphère, d’un rayon de trente centimètres. Ils sont élaborés avec de la céramique et du ciment époxy, suivant un maillage caractéristique de certaines œuvres de l’artiste.
L’ensemble des éléments constitutifs de la pièce revêt des propriétés mécaniques proches de celles du béton. Compte tenu de ses dimensions et de sa masse, cela implique que l’ouvrage soit d’une grande dureté et d’une résistance suffisante à la tension.
Avec cette forme de sculpture en S, Philippe Fares nous suggère, de façon saisissante, l’allure d’un cobra royal à la peau noir-verdâtre. La créature apparaît en posture d’attaque avec le cou dressé et aplati.
Au pied de l’œuvre, le puissant rétro éclairage télécommandé, permet de projeter une ombre démesurée sur les plans verticaux et horizontaux environnants. La lumière rouge et chaude amplifie considérablement le contraste des losanges de la structure.
Cette combinaison visuelle accentue le caractère inquiétant de cette forme reptilienne aux dimensions imposantes. Comme pour dominer une proie imaginaire, INVADER 2022 semble adopter une stratégie de combat...
