Pétronille Remaury, painter and visual artist, lives and works in Juvisy-sur-Orge, in Essonne (91), France.
Trained in drawing at ESAG, Met de Penninghen, Pétronille Remaury has built a pictorial language at the crossroads of aesthetic demands and an intimate reflection on the relationship between man and nature. After 20 years of artistic direction with major brands, she turned to a personal artistic practice where the tension between the beauty of life and ecological destruction nourishes each series.
Oscillating between wonder and anguish, her production is a barometer of her crises of eco-anxiety, crossing creative cycles marked by distinct periods, where nature is alternately celebrated or devoured. Her work is structured around several chronological series that reveal this oscillation.
Flowers and animals: Her first series explores the splendor of life, an ode to flora and fauna, where nature seems invincible, abundant.
"Les Médusées": A series of portraits of women without mouths, a subtle feminist critique, where the silence imposed on women collides with the power of gazes, questioning the relationship to power and speech.
"Étiolifloris": In this series, flowers become sick, contracting an imaginary disease. They fade and metamorphose, an allegory of the fragility of nature in the face of human destruction.
"Terminoscene": Here, men devour nature. The series addresses human predation and the destruction of ecosystems, where nature is literally consumed by human assaults.
"News from the world?": This series is a dive into a universe where humans and nature merge, where borders fade. Bouquets of strange flowers, monsters carpeting the forests and human figures blending into the landscape form a hybrid world, both disturbing and fascinating.
"Les Poveras": Finally, this series of vases is intended to be more introspective, evoking containers of memory, fragments of ancestral culture. The vase, a central element, becomes a metaphor for the container and the content, between collective memory and fragility.
Through these different series, Pétronille Remaury questions the place of Man in a world where nature is gradually regaining its rights. His work is at once an ecological reflection, a critique of human domination, and an ode to the beauty and fragility of life.
Each brushstroke, like an incantation, seeks to capture the suspended moment when the harmony between Man and nature wavers, when the boundaries between the two collapse, revealing a poetic, disturbing, but also inescapable symbiosis.
