She was born in Dubrovnik ( Croatia ). After secondary art school in her home town, she enrolled in the painting course of the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb. She took her degree in 2002,class of Igor Rončević. She is a member of HDLU ( Croatian Association of Artists ). She has shown her work at several solo and collective exhibitions. Now she works in the Croatian Conservation Institute as a conservator-restorer of wooden polychrome and photographer.
Social and existential provocation and the message of these paintings and these ideas in Petra Farac are not just an imaginative illusions or saving alibi of innocent feeble person: this provocation is the engagement of a young person not bridled as yet by the compromises of the commonplace. It is expressed through the width and the steadiness of the painting motion which is as obvious as the associative metaphors and deep poetic elements( ability and great freedom of ideas, their associations and distinctions ) which form the source of these paintings.Basically, we have here conceptual works as the process of painting and the gradual working out of the plan of her painting, are the interactive media of transfer of the message. How else can we explain the clash of the neutral, plain background of the painting with the hard lines of the spilling of painting materials, their (accidental) spreading along the magnetic lines of gravitation and (the intentional) turning round of the canvass so that the colour flows in another (desired) direction.Or, how can we explain the clash of the crude sub-structure of the painting with the constructive elements painted through clusters or ( "meaningless" combinations), done very precisely with contrasting colours.
By emphasising the poetical comparison and the contrast which strengthen its function through anaphorae, i.e. by repetition of the same or similar forms and painting texture, (the constructive and the primary), Petra adds to the imaginative warp of the painting and the intensity of its message and searches in the visual effects which, at the same time, reaffirm the process and the hedonistic nature of painting. This is all happening in the times of art without paintings and objects, in times of art in which the meaning, the word, the witticism or the artist's behavior have almost pushed back the traditional forms of artistic expression. Therefore, it becomes even more precious, doesn't it? The preciousness to be treasured!

Kantuni od Grada/ Corners of the City 2006 • 10 artworks

This is not about corners you would immediately think of (street corners, town squares" corners) but it"s about what we find behind these "corners" passing through Dubrovnik. Of course, when you walk through the City you can"t go round St. Blaise, then Orlando, Sponza and our pigeons, it is also a great joy to see women in traditional national costumes, like women from Konavle (Konavoke) and people on Placa(market), to quench thirst on the fountain, to dance with Linđo or just admire the view of the Old Town port. These are all typical scenes of the City (symbols). Scenes which are often taken by camera.
This is exactly where this art story begins. I call it "filtrated photos", photos which passed through numerous media; filters. A digital photo is being processed in the computer and then printed several times. But, passing through these filters the original photo looses its quality, colour, contours. And all that, until it comes in that last media – the art media which revives it with colour and drawings. Then the scene becomes a part of the picture, it becomes the picture.
Coal drawings emphasize the black and white gamma of colours on the picture which we oppose to the accentuated colours of the background. These are the colours of summer, sun, sea, blooming plants, but also of people"s murmur in the season because Dubrovnik is, after all, the most beautiful in summer.
But as well as these photos, which passed through several filters that wore them out, faded them, these typical scenes of the City (on postcards, illustrations, brochures),often taken behind the same corner, are already worn out. But, nevertheless, it is the iconography of the city we live in and scenes that make it so special. And art is the medium of different interpretations of these scenes, pictures inside pictures.
"Cause you never know what you"ll find behind the Corners of the City.
