In a pond, several red koi carp are shown from above. The water is almost black at the base of the canvas, and dark blue at the top. The square format was chosen to recall the classic fishbowl, but some of the fish are swimming outside the chosen frame.
Jean Marie Pen was born in 1959 and began painting on canvas in 1994, with his earliest works being black and white portraits with a hint of blue. Then came still lifes and landscapes, one by one, with a palette that was enriched by numerous tones. Only in oil, with no special influences other than a few Northern European artists and their bright masterpieces. Exhibitions in a few locations along the Côtes d'Armor, then in Saint-Pierre and Miquelon. Faces, classic still lifes, urban or coastal vistas are among his privileged subjects.
