Unique piece – signed by the artist
A bold celebration of light, energy, and expressive color, “Soleil Triomphant” (2025) by Pascal Courcelles is a monumental work that radiates vitality. Spanning two meters in height and width, this immersive painting envelops the viewer in a sensory universe of gesture, texture, and emotional warmth — a visual triumph of matter and motion.
The composition pulses with countless shades: intense reds, glowing oranges, spring greens, electric blues, and soft lilacs, layered in thick impasto across the canvas. The color seems to rise and fall like waves of heat or the shifting light of a landscape at its most vibrant. At its heart is a sensation of joy — not decorative, but visceral. It is the triumph of the sun, not just as a source of light, but as a metaphor for life itself.
“Soleil Triomphant” is a unique work (edition 1/1), created without sketch or preconception, emerging entirely from the artist’s physical and intuitive relationship with the canvas. Every inch of surface is built with attention, allowing the painting to reveal itself gradually over the course of its making. The result is an authentic, unrepeatable moment in Courcelles’ evolving artistic journey.
This is one of the largest and most exuberant pieces in Courcelles’ recent production — and a statement in scale, presence, and chromatic complexity. His work has been exhibited across Europe, Japan, and the Middle East, and is increasingly sought after by collectors who value material experimentation grounded in sincere emotional engagement. “Soleil Triomphant” represents a peak of both expression and craft.
In pristine condition, the surface is rich and tactile, with layers of paint that catch the light and shift as one moves around the piece. From afar, the painting radiates as a single force; up close, it dissolves into a constellation of gestures, textures, and micro-landscapes. It is professionally stretched and ready to hang.
This work is ideal for those seeking a centerpiece that combines visual power with emotional nuance. “Soleil Triomphant” offers a profound and uplifting experience — a work that doesn’t merely fill space, but activates it, transforming any room into a place of radiant presence.
Born in Brussels in 1956, Courcelles studied art at the Institut Saint-Luc in Brussels and in
Tournai, between 1972 and 1979. Since then, he has built a vibrant artistic path, with solo and
group exhibitions across Belgium, Italy, Japan, Lebanon, and beyond. But it is his visual language
that leaves the deepest impression: profoundly sensorial, composed of layers, material, and color,
not as an end, but as a process.
His painting is part of a material lineage, where comparisons have been made with Michel Frère
or even Eugène Leroy. But unlike Leroy, whose brushstroke carried a nearly tragic pathos,
Courcelles paints from a vital impulse, in celebration of life. With each gesture bursts forth the joy
of color, the pleasure of chromatic vibration. His admiration for Riopelle is clear: both artists
explore the interweaving and layering of color, often in their pure state, explosive, like emotional
fireworks.
The work of Pascal Courcelles does not ask to be understood — it asks to be felt. It is vibration,
intuition, pleasure. And above all, it is a celebration of what is most simple and most essential: the
joy of painting.
