Unique piece – signed by the artist
A vast field of color, light, and movement, “Liberté du Bleu” (2025) by Pascal Courcelles is an immersive experience — a painting that invites the viewer to breathe deeply and let the eye wander through a universe of pure pigment and texture. It is a singular composition that evokes the boundless sky, the depths of the sea, and the gentle freedom found in silence.
Executed in mixed media on canvas, this large-scale work is alive with tonal variations of blue — from crystalline turquoise to atmospheric sky tones — delicately interrupted by bursts of yellow, coral, green, and crimson. The surface is richly textured with Courcelles’ signature impasto technique, building peaks and valleys that capture and reflect light in subtle, ever-changing ways.
This is a one-of-a-kind creation — edition 1/1 — with no reproductions or duplicates. It stands as a complete, autonomous work, embodying Courcelles’ commitment to process and presence. The composition was developed intuitively, layer by layer, allowing the painting to evolve organically into its final form — a landscape of sensation rather than representation.
“Liberté du Bleu” exemplifies the maturity and consistency of an artist who has spent decades refining a language of color and gesture. It offers a unique interplay between freedom and structure, between spontaneity and intention. Its scale amplifies its emotional impact, making it a striking centerpiece for a collection focused on material abstraction or sensorial depth.
The painting is in perfect condition, professionally stretched and ready to hang. Up close, the surface is sculptural — with paint rising like waves or wind-carved dunes. From a distance, the composition dissolves into a peaceful yet vibrant whole. Its visual impact is immediate, but its nuances reveal themselves slowly, over time.
This work is ideal for those who value tactile expression, poetic abstraction, and the emotional power of color. It resonates with the meditative quiet of nature while remaining grounded in the raw, joyful act of painting. “Liberté du Bleu” is not only a visual statement — it’s a space to inhabit.

Born in Brussels in 1956, Courcelles studied art at the Institut Saint-Luc in Brussels and in
Tournai, between 1972 and 1979. Since then, he has built a vibrant artistic path, with solo and
group exhibitions across Belgium, Italy, Japan, Lebanon, and beyond. But it is his visual language
that leaves the deepest impression: profoundly sensorial, composed of layers, material, and color,
not as an end, but as a process.
His painting is part of a material lineage, where comparisons have been made with Michel Frère
or even Eugène Leroy. But unlike Leroy, whose brushstroke carried a nearly tragic pathos,
Courcelles paints from a vital impulse, in celebration of life. With each gesture bursts forth the joy
of color, the pleasure of chromatic vibration. His admiration for Riopelle is clear: both artists
explore the interweaving and layering of color, often in their pure state, explosive, like emotional
fireworks.
The work of Pascal Courcelles does not ask to be understood — it asks to be felt. It is vibration,
intuition, pleasure. And above all, it is a celebration of what is most simple and most essential: the
joy of painting.
