Paco Meléndez [P]
Francisco Meléndez Torres was born in Málaga (Spain) in 1965, the son of working-class parents. He didn't have the opportunity to study Fine Arts, but his creative curiosity led him to become self-taught in what he loved most: painting. From a young age, he stood out for his drawings, which he made and gave to his childhood and youth friends.
He suffered from a degenerative disease that he was diagnosed with when he was just 7 years old (DUCHENNE muscular dystrophy). This never stopped him from drawing, first, and later painting; he even worked for SAMMER GALLERY, a gallery in Marbella (Spain), for 10 years.
He has over 3,000 drawings on paper using different techniques and around 1,000 paintings on both wood and canvas, also using different techniques, mostly acrylic. This has led to his exhibitions in various galleries throughout Spain and some abroad (Japan, England, France, Ireland, etc.). Four of his paintings have been published by Correos España in conjunction with Sammer Gallery. Each stamp has a print run of 50,000,000.
Paco (as he is known both artistically and colloquially) possesses an imagination that still makes itself known wherever he is called. For him, painting is, and he has even said in his own words:
“Through painting I arrived at my own knowledge and fulfillment as a person…I didn’t look for painting…painting was within me.
With it I have managed to break barriers, putting all my creative strength into it.
There is no barrier that cannot be broken with the power of the mind, and my work is pure imagination.”
