The Magic is in the discovery.

People tend to have stronger
ties to artworks that they
acheive certain insights with.
To spell it out for them
completely cuts any chance for
a bond.
I liked a quote from MST3k 'We
don't write jokes so that
everyone will get them, we
right jokes so that the right
people will get them' I'm not
sure if that is exact but it
conveys the meaning of the
statement.
I don't paint so that everyone
will understand, I paint for
the right person to
understand. It may take a
while for some people but if
it is visually interesting
enough to keep them looking
eventually they will discover
things for themselves. Once
the discovery process begins
so does the bonding, magic,
emotions.
I allow free association with
the artwork, so the viewer can
discover their own meaning to
the Piece. (Its a nice sounding
way of saying "I'm not telling")
