Article
Our actions define us. They shape and break us, causing us to move forward or backwards. It is the consequences of our actions that teaches us to live, to learn, to understand – sometimes with the most dire of results. Actions are the paintbrush with which we paint our portrait.
It is with this most elemental philosophy that I approach my work. Art is essentially a portrait of ourselves. The portrait may exist in the diffused pastels of a landscape, the quick awkward paint stroke of a figurative, or the damning silence of a still life.

Press Release: May 18, 2005
Asleep in the Garden of the Alchemist
New and Selected Works by Naccarato on Exhibit at his Lac-Brome Studio
New and selected works by visual artist John Naccarato will be on show at his Lac-Brome Studio, in the Eastern Townships from May 28 thru to June 05, 2005. Mr. Naccarato’s latest exhibit “Asleep in the Garden of the Alchemist” will feature paintings, drawings, photographs, digital compositions as well as a live interactive session between himself, the public and other artists from around the world.
Mr. Naccarato, an artist for over 25 years, moved to the Eastern Townships in July, 2004 to pursue his work outside the demands and confines of urban life. Ironically, it was after leaving the city that he began to explore digital imagery. Naccarato now believes that his contemporary compositions created with the use of digital applications allow us to reinterpret our understanding and appreciation of painting and photography.
The exhibition marks a turning point for Naccarato, in style and technique. His latest work portrays the dream state of our temporal existence, reflected through a subtle abstracted layering of forms and light.
“Asleep in the Garden of the Alchemist,” will be a great opportunity for the public to view Naccarato’s transition to integrating contemporary and traditional mediums - fusing pixels to oils - portraying new perspectives.
We would like to thank Emploi-Québec and the Centre Local de Développement Brome-Missisquoi whose generous support made the exhibition possible. Mr. Naccarato will also be participating in the upcoming Eastern Townships’ Tour des Arts from July 16 to 24, 2005.
The opening reception for the exhibit will be on May 28, 2005 from 12 to 8 pm. Regular viewing hours from May 29 to June 05 will be 12 to 5 pm.
Selected works, the artist’s statement, directions to the studio and other information may be viewed at .
The live interactive session with visual artists and photographers from around the world will commence on Friday, May 27, 2005 at 10:00 am EDT. Location and information will be posted at these two sites: and /blog/
