Initiated at the age of 6 by the painters of the navy on the quay of Lesconil, in Brittany, Michel Corbel followed a complete course at the Schools of Fine Arts in Quimper, Brest and Paris. Unsurprisingly, his references are Picasso and Modigliani. But he follows Banksy's work in street art, marvels at 18th century Japanese prints and Peruvian monuments. A decompartmentalised culture. Michel Corbel also claims to be inspired by hundreds of painters from various currents. He chose to paint in oils and on linen canvas. An artist's pleasure. That of the touch of the brush on the canvas. A question of texture, gesture and material. The brightly colored canvases can be discovered with pleasure and cheerfulness. They open the door to jazz clubs, cafes, intimate interiors inhabited by naked women with yellow breasts and reveal to you the iodized daily life of small Breton ports. These choices of colors which seem as improbable as they are random are in rigorous fact. Just as the ambient fantasy of the canvases is a composition elaborated from lines, very studied. The artist is above all a technical purist, an esthège of the diagonal and a lover of the line.
